Dad's pu's original engine was the one that did well and we had to
file the rings so much I swore they had to be oversize! End gap either
hit ends or almost overlapped! Never had to file rings much ever,
certainly not as much as those needed!
I alway use a 3 stone hone. Sears or KD, not sure which it is but
it's always done well. Had to rehone the pu's TD and my Jetta's blocks
after getting them back from the machine shop. Too fine of honing
and the rings wore out in 15K on the Jetta! Took 20 minutes on the
phone with Total Seal to figure that one out. Everybody else I asked
was no help at all; hole in intake, wrong rings, installed wrong, no
oil, etc, etc.
