  There are non oil cooler hoses that are cheaper and can directly 
replace them.  Don't know that you'd NEED to replace/remove the 
factory unit.  Consensus is that it's more of an oil warmer than a 
cooler for the most part.  You might want a thermostat for your 
cooler, if there isn't one built into your sandwich.
