  Not all that long ago, the tax in WA State was high enough that 
an expensive car was obviously being purchased by an affluent 
individual.  Dad was offered an excellent 300D turbo that was a 
year old.  He didn't even ask the price because taxes would be 
over $1,000/year and that was over 25 years ago!  Our "$30/year" 
car license now costs $40 to $60/year.  My moped went from $8 
to $30 and tonnage went up as well as having to buy new plates 
every 4 years I believe (because they fade) but if you pay an 
additional $20, you can keep them and use them!
