Gas engines need some back pressure to keep the fuel mix from
going out the exhaust valves during overlap. Since there's no
fuel in a diesel intake charge until just before ignition, there's no
need. A good vacuum downwind of the exhaust manifold would
be appreciated by a diesel, especially a turbo! :-D
