  Gas engines need some back pressure to keep the fuel mix from 
going out the exhaust valves during overlap.  Since there's no 
fuel in a diesel intake charge until just before ignition, there's no 
need.   A good vacuum downwind of the exhaust manifold would 
be appreciated by a diesel, especially a turbo!  :-D
