I don't think there's anything significant wrong with the cam at this point
unplugging the MAF made a substantial difference, which tells me the MAF is indeed toast
when the MAF failed and went into limp mode it was quite sudden
engine running great, lots of boost (after replacing almost everything in the turbo chain) before than
not the symptoms of a cam gradually wearing away over tens of thousands of miles
all my problems started with a botched alternator job where the turbo-to-intake pipe was left disconnected
before that, the engine and all peripherals ran like a dream
never a hint of an issue - tight, strong, quiet, clean, economical
since all the subsequent failures and replacements, I feel I am finally approaching the way the engine used to run
hoping the MAF is the last thing I need to replace for a long time
I am guessing your issues and mine look superficially similar but stem from different underlying problems
thanks,
Rolf in MA
