I heard of the VW 1.8 sludge problem from my nephew, I didn't know they were
actually going to 'fix' it.
He is fighting Honda over their marginal battery pack in their Civic Hybrid,
which after recent computer software upgrades; now get worse mileage than
the non-hybrid model.
btw, Chrysler had a problem with a sludge problem in the 2.6L (maybe 2.7L)
V6.

anybody else get the letter from VW about the recall for 1.8T (gasser)
motors? Apparently there is excessive sludge buildup, causing premature
failures (turbo, engine, etc). I had a passat that was included, so i got
the letter.
I'm sending this email because many of us are driving turbo'ed vw (diesels
and some gassers i suppose) and this may be noteworthy.
I'll try to get the letter scanned and posted in the files (or p-mailed)
shortly.
