I knew a person that has a 1934 Terraplane which had the electric shifter you described. The car had a clutch & also a removable floor shift lever that could be reinserted when the electric shift acted up. In 1932 the Essex was renamed the Essex Terraplane, then Terraplane from 1933 thru 1937. In 1938 it became known as the Hudson-Terraplane. In 1939 the Terraplane name was dropped & became Hudson. Essex & Terraplane were the low cost lines of Hudson. I don't know when the "Electric Hand" was dropped by Hudson but think it was in the 1938 model year when the column shift was introduced.
