This forum has provided me with enough info for the common person to read the display sign that is going next to the tractor. And no that wasn't a factory option. Granted JD a lot of times doesn't use there own engines in the smaller things but VW wasn't ever a choice. Way to much HP for the application. Even the larger lawn and garden tractors don't have that much horse today (some do but the majority don't). That was made from someone with time on there hands and pays attention to detail. He had a normal 140 that did the actual mowing.

Yes customizing can be a big deal from pulls to racing to just changing the looks and application. We have made a crawler and a 4 wheel drive with duals (pivots and drives all wheels). We have one with a loader on the front and a backhoe on the back. They made mini pull behind scrappers, generators, air compressors, blades (front, center, back), blowers, tillers, sweepers, etc (large list). So far we have gotten all (or at least close to all) the equipment for the patio L&G JD tractors. The patio has the white body with either a red, orange, blue or yellow hood & seat and was made in 4 model sizes (we have all the colors and sizes-16 total). We have about 30 L&G tractors. When I went to college and my brother got married we weren't able to get, restore and store any more tractors and my father doesn't know how to even change oil so he got into the Lawn and Garden side as it was something my brother could help with that didn't require as much time commitment. Enough on the JD history as this is VW diesel forum.

I do want to thank all that replied as my father is using the answers provided (while he can't change oil, he can do a nice write up). I also want to thank everyone for all the help you all have provided in the past as well. Most everyone is pretty down to earth. Sorry for the long post.

P.S. If anyone ever goes through central MN let me know as my family LOVES to show the tractors. We have it set up like a museum so others can learn and enjoy the history.
