I have noticed on my 91 jetta TD that if I take off from a light and go
heavy on the throttle it will climb on the temp gage. To me it is normal for
it being under a load. Just keep an eye on it so it doesn't go to far.
When was the last time you flushed the cooling system and had fresh coolant
installed?

I have a 1980 Diesel Pickup and installed a direct reading gauge. It runs
about 200 degrees during weather between 72 to 80 degrees on a level road
around 70 MPH. Start climbing or surface street stop and go and it will
quickly go to 210 to 220 degrees. The radiator was replaced 4 yrs. ago just
as a
precaution. Is this considered normal? I would appreciate comments. Dick
