If it was the X relay then EVERYTHING on the x relay would go off,
at the same time, not just the high beams. If it were the ignition
switch then not only would everything on the X circuit go but
everythign on the "run" position should also go off.
It sounds like a bad contact/connection. Grounds are a good place
to check but that should affect low beam as well, since factory
hi/low headlights use the same or nearly the same wattage for high
and low beam, a flaky ground at the headlight, should affect both,
fairly equally.
It sounds like an early A1 fuse problem (the ceramic, straight fuses)
but since it has GM type fuses, then I'd guess it's most likely the
headlight switch itself.
