[Vwdiesel] Volvo brake question

What is this "good cast rod" you talk about? I've tried to weld cast iron
before, and I learned why the old timers laughed at me about that. It's
awfully darned hard to do, and I have since learned that there is a special
heat bath treatment to get the whole piece to a very high temperature to
keep the metal from blowing out.

Is there some kind of a stick with special flux or some such that makes it
possible? I had to resort to brazing the piece I was working on, and
thankfully it was in a place that a little reduced strength was not a
problem.

Thanks,
Erik
