Reply to Tad. The engine seemed quiet at idle, suggesting from your suggestion that the IP needs advancing. Would being somewhat retarded make starting more difficult? When you pull out the "choke" or cold start cable, does that advance or retard the IP? Pulling it out or pushing it in didn't seem to make any difference in the engine sound.
My Citroen CX diesel can sit 6 months & still fire right off as can my Cummings diesel powered motorhome.
