[Vwdiesel] Not diesel, just brake bleeding hell on a VW@ bug question

Hey all, thanks for all of your help.

Guess what it was, just what you all said.
Peddle Plunger was short by a good 3/8th of an inch, so cranked that out to an
1/8trh of an inch from contacting the new master cylinder piston.

I also went back and jacked up the back wheels and re-adjusted the rear brakes.
I got a few more turns out of the brake shoe adjusters for sure.

That brought the peddle up to about 1/2 and all is well.  If I re-adjusted the
front brakes I may have gotten them up a bit more.

Anyway, I am a HAPPY camper and so it the owner of the car and I did not have to
spend more then 20 minutes doing this, thanks to all of you.
Simple as simple can be, love the VW.

Take care.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Not diesel, just brake bleeding hell on a VW@ bug question

I have been following this although I have never worked on  any VW brakes. In
reading other comments I recall two things. A spacer on the master cylinder fell
into a cavity where it could not be recovered. Could the replacement be too
short? Maybe the other one was too. Was the replacement master cylinder the same
dimensions? Are there different master cylinders for different year beetles?
Also mentioned were some type of "restrictors" between the brake hose & the
front wheel cylinders. Could this have anything to do with the problem? Does
this beetle have front disk or drum brakes? If disk, is there a proportioning
valve between the front & rear brakes. I am interested in how this is solved as
learning for myself, since there is still a lot I don't know.
