The Jetta got the TDI engine in 1996 for the US/Canada with the AHU.

  It should sound impossible since the Jetta didn't get the TDI unil 
98 or maybe late 97 (don't remember for sure which).  Only the 
Passat had the TDI in '96 (in the States anyway.)
