If you do it without the engine in it then it's likely to be wrong
once the engine is in. But I'm no expert on all the interplaying
settings of the alignment. I know that the way the car is sitting will
at least affect some of them. Whether toe-in is one I'm not sure. But
if you set the camber first then that is bound to change once the car
is more level with the weight of the engine. If you go to change it
later then you'd have to change toe also.

Yes, measuring is easier with the engine out, but I suspect you'd be
wasting your time to mess with it.
