  It all depends.  Dad has an '83 and a '70 MB.  Both have been 
fairly trouble free other than a couple undaignosed issues with 
the '83 and the constant, common, heater issues with it as well.
My sister had an '81(?) SD that cost them a fortune.  Part of the 
problem was they'd take it to the dealer and say "fix what needs 
fixed."  Dad just didn't take it in unless mandatory.
  Owner group can affect pricing such as with the newer vs older, 
cars.   Newer ones are owned by people with more money, they 
spend more, will give up and take a loss.  The older (80's MB's) 
are second hand cars and owned by people that to some degree, 
understand them and can work on them.  They therefore could 
have a higher value, in a way.  The complexities certainly add 
to the reason those cars fall into those groups!
