James' story sounds good. 

I avoid computerized engines like the plague, but I pick up on one thing.

Is the egr actually operated with a vacuum device, via a solenoid valve
operated by the ECU ?

More rubber linguini entwining the engine room.

Could the hose to-from, before-after, the solenoid valve been trashed in the
train wreck of the air induction?
 I think it's on that side of the engine room.

And/or, is the MAF in the section of the ducting BEFORE the wreckage?

All of this needs to be inspected to ensure the "mechanics" didn't miss
something when they attempted to put Humpty back together.
