On my 81 VW truck the previous owner put a new clutch in it. Problem was that the pressure plate wasn't replaced and the friction disk was a 190 mm and the flywheel and pressure plate was a 200 mm. Worked fine for about a year. Honey moon through NY city pressing the clutch all day long in the stop and go traffic it started to slip a little. I replaced the clutch that fall and found out why it was starting to slip. Combo between the too small a friction disk and an old pressure plate that likely didn't have the grip (glazed) and the spring force of a new one. Some people definition of "new clutch" is different then others. Might be a cheap clutch as well. There is a plate with a rubber seal and a drain cavity that should keep most of the oil off the clutch from the engine.
