205s are a bit wide for the 6" rims on your Golf.  Yes, they will work, but they don't have ideal geometry for cornering loads, and they may cost a tiny bit of fuel mileage.  Personally, I like to be on 7" for 195s, but can live with 6.5 in a pinch.
