[Vwdiesel] Miles per gallon

If these HHO generators would increase MPG by 20%, why don't any of the auto manufacturers offer them as standard or optional equipment? The main thing that attracts me to diesels is their superior fuel economy. I have seen some Mercedes diesels for sale with these HHO "run on water" generators installed & claiming much higher MPG. I wonder, if they are so great, why were they selling the car?
