[Vwdiesel] OT: Keeping Silicone sealant "fresh"

  It seems to vary.  The less valuable (and cheaper the original cost, ie 
"found somewhere" ) the longer it will last after opening.  If it has a 
cap, 
I cap it.   If not then tape or whatever's handy.  Invariably the newer 
or better it is, it seems to cure faster than some old tube that I'd expect 

wouldn't make it a week!  Really old stuff will cure faster but...
  For automotive stuff, I went to Permatex(?) something Blue.  Kinda 
sparkly, in a 6" aluminun tube.  It's sticky, lasts forever and seals well.
A little spendy but it's always useable when you pull the cap even if you 
do have to dig a little out of the  opening of the tube.
