I am not an AC expert but I have I have successfully replaced A/C compressors on two Citroens, a Peugeot & a Mazda 626 back in the days when R-12 was legal & could be bought for under $2 a can. I have never before heard of "pressure testing" an A/C compressor. I did build a vacuum pump from an old refrigerator which you should be able to find for free, to evacuate the A/C system after the compressor was attached. Perhaps what you mean by a "pressure test" is to evacuate the A/C system & see if the system holds its vacuum as I did attach a vacuum gage on the line. Than ran the refrigerator compressor motor for an hour to evacuate the system & install two or 3 cans of freon 12. At the same time I would also replace the receiver dryer. I haven't tried repairing a car with R-134a but my 1995 Olds needs it as it leaks R-134a & I want to fix the A/C before I drive down to San Diego next month for a big antique radio swap meet.. I suppose you would do it the same way but get the R-134a fittings to evacuate the system. Any comments?
