Sorry to confuse you all. Bill, I was not asking if it was worth presure
testing the compressor, but the condenser. I meant to say the AC Condenser, not
"The AC Evaporator (the AC rad attached to the cooling rad, right?)"
My big question was is it worth getting the AC Condenser preasure tested while
it is out? This is the radiator looking thing attached to the radiator. It
looks fine, shows no signs of physical damage, leaks or rot, so I will just
replace the O-rings, clean up the Schrader valves and replace the Receiver
Drier/Accumulator since I have a new one already.
Tonight I will take a look at the AC Evaporator in the car, under the passenger
side dash, tonight.
Oh, re-glued the falling head liner in the back with 3M-77 and it seems to be
holding well. looks great.
you all can do it. I did not have to scrap any of the old stuff off, so I was
lucky I guess.
Thanks, I will keep you posted.

I am not an AC expert but I have I have successfully replaced A/C compressors on
two Citroens, a Peugeot & a Mazda 626 back in the days when R-12 was legal &
could be bought for under $2 a can. I have never before heard of "pressure
testing" an A/C compressor. I did build a vacuum pump from an old refrigerator
which you should be able to find for free, to evacuate the A/C system after the
compressor was attached. Perhaps what you mean by a "pressure test" is to
evacuate the A/C system & see if the system holds its vacuum as I did attach a
vacuum gage on the line. Than ran the refrigerator compressor motor for an hour
to evacuate the system & install two or 3 cans of freon 12. At the same time I
would also replace the receiver dryer. I haven't tried repairing a car with
R-134a but my 1995 Olds needs it as it leaks R-134a & I want to fix the A/C
before I drive down to San Diego next month for a big antique radio swap meet..
I suppose you would do it the same way but get the R-134a fittings to evacuate
the system. Any comments?
