I like your approach Tad, will do.
it has only leaked when the car was on a slant and to the right side, so it must
be something silly like this.

 Bryan Belman, Pt. Pleasant, NJ
04 Jetta Wagon TDI PD, 100hp, 5sp -- running :<)
92 Jetta 1.6 Eco-Turbo Diesel, 5sp -- running :<)
82 Diesel Westy 1.9NA -- running :<)
70 Type 1 stock Beetle -- Running :-)

I can't say for sure that you're covered by the recall, but I thought all A4s
were.  Maybe call a stealer and check... or don't bother.  I think all they do
is the same thing you're already doing - make sure the nipples aren't stuck
closed.

I've seen water in the same place and it seemed to be resolved by opening the
nipple.

I wouldn't pull the plug off for fear of disconnecting something further up and
compounding the problem.

Maybe you could make sure the nipple is clear, then park on a incline such that
that corner is the lowest point, open the sunroof and carefully/slowly pour
water into the drip tray and confirm that it's going where it's supposed to...

This is jetta wagon.  Did not know of a recall in this car for the drain.
