[Vwdiesel] car for sale

Perhaps the wild, wide open, mostly unpaved west is a bit too intimidating
for easterners who are used to their civilized wall to wall pavement and
never seeing the horizon? ;-)

I know an antique dealer who runs an 18 wheeler back east filled with old
western thrown away cars and brings back thrown away antiques for his
living.

He makes a very good living at it too.

Hi Bill;
Up here in the Northwest I usually can find a dead Rabbit that has
little or no rust with a decent interior except perhaps the seats for 500
bucks or under. Why those salt challenged people spend thousands of dollars
trying to repair a rust bucket when for much less they could buy a runner
here and drive it home to the East is hard for me to understand.
I have a 4 door 1981 Dasher diesel with a 1.6 engine and a long
legged 4 speed 1988 VW Fox tranny. That has no rust, a decent interior and
so so paint, it runs great. I would sell it for 2 grand and the person
buying it could drive it anywhere. I did a trip with it in May across the
United States and back over 8000 miles at an average MPG of just over 50.
I'm rebuilding a 1.6 diesel for my 1981 VW Rabbit pickup and will
have it done this week or next. I also have a 1981 Dasher diesel station
wagon that I usually use for long trips. A 1981 VW Rabbit gas pickup for
short trips and an 1987 Audi 4000CS Quattro for the winter time. I just have
too many cars and need to sell one or two. Another project I'm working on is
a 1990 VW Fox station Wagon in which I am installing a 2 ltr 16 valve gas
engine. It should surprise a few when done.

I can't understand why you people back east will put thousands of dollars
into repairing a rusted out hulk when there are good cars out west that end
up going to the crusher. I have two 1981 Rabbit diesels that I would sell
for $1000. A person living back east could fly out here, rent a large U Haul
truck & a tow dolly one way, put one Rabbit in the truck & the other on the
tow dolly & you could make one good Rabbit from the two & still have a good
frame to build up another Rabbit. If you did that, you would probably be
out a total of $3000 to build up two Rabbits. These comments do not apply to
some rare numbers matching muscle car or other rare car such as a Cord but
do apply to the average collector car. I used to live in Minn. so I know
what rust can do to a car.
What I have observed is that interior upholstery will often survive in the
rust belt but is ruined by the heat & sun out here in the west.
