Oh, how I remember changing the air filter in my old Audi 200. Fun, fun.
I have a cabin filter for the Audi 200 and a few air clearners and oil filters.
I just found a box of stuff.
Make me an offer before I put them on e-bay next week.
The Jetta TD, 1.6, it about 1/2 as fun, the way it is jammed in the front
passenger side behind the head light.
They use a gasser filter for this air box by the way, not sure if it the same
air box that a 1.8 gasser would use, I would think so.

The main vacuum supply hose, a one-long legged elbow tends to collapse
as well as other stuff rotting. I took a piece of 1/2 electrical conduit,
cross
drilled some holes in one end, put it inside and never had a problem after
that!
Air filter is simply a PITA! Brute force helps but book is something
like 45
minutes!
