[Vwdiesel] Pedal Swap

Aye, I'm going for moving all the electronics over. Finished pulling
the wiring harness on Sunday. No cut wires, everything labelled and
ready to go into the rabbit. Figure the computer can go in the rain
tray or (preferably) the passenger compartment. The entire dash has
been removed and I'll be keeping it fairly minimal. Immobilizer came
in later year cars, I don't have to worry about that.

There is no need to modify engine mounts. The one off the gasser (or a
cut down one off a diesel) will work for the passenger mount, the
front mount doesn't change, and I bought mounts for the transmission.
Oil pan should be the same height as the old diesel. I'd prefer to go
to a dry sump, but that's way down the line ... (anyone have any info
on it?). Probably try and get a roll cage first. Not much to these old
cars ...

I have found a little on the other forums. There's this guy:

I was hoping to keep more of the mounting plate, but it doesn't look
terrible to do it that way.

This:

seems like it must be a different model or year. My gas pedal has a
little cable coming out the top going to the rheostat. Same idea
though, and doesn't look too terrible. Still doesn't answer whether I
can just cut one out and brace it into the other though (with
appropriate bracing)

They put the computer in the rain train and covered it from the elements and they had to use the TDI's key as well. They moved the shifter over and pedels. The instrument cluster was cut down to fit in the MKI or MKII dash. I can't remember if they put the MKII dash is as I have seen that a few times as well. Then you have to weld in the mounting points for the enigne tranny. Lots if tideous work but I am sure it will be worth it. I would love to do that if my TDI car crashed or something. I would be most worried about the oil pan sticking out so low. I know for my BEW engine there is a oil pan gaurd that bolts on to the block. Downside is if you hit something you break the mounting tabs on the block but better then nothing.

I do agree that they should have a safety test though if the car has a shock tower through the hood it should be condemed. I have seen some interesting cars driving around with the reservation nearby.
