After putting aroudn 2000 miles on the Golf with the gauges in there and a tune I am pleased to see the temps. I need to watch it more when towwing and going up mountains. I got as hot as 1600 dF at times but it wouldn't go any hotter then that. According to tdiclube the newer turbos can handle 1600-1900 without worrying. Since I didn't have the gauge on but have had the tune since last winter I imagine I was at the limit for a good long time and still haven't damaged anything. I am planning on a 17/22 turbo down the road sometime though anyways so if it does go it won't break my heart. The boost goes all over depending on load (hills, wind, etc). It will spike up to 21 and settle at about 19 psi under full load. I have heard about 18 psi is max for stock turbo. My brother also has a tune but it must have a different code as it is higher boost and less EGT (same gauge and tune box-Q-loader). He needs the code changed as his car is going into over boost and going to limp mode and the code needs to be cleared to run again. Only does it when really working it hard. I was amazed to see how much the rubber boost hose expands in these cars with the hood open. Without a load it will boost when flooring it to 12 psi (sitting in the shop). The hose really gets big. We were able to seal up my brothers intercooler piping with new seals as it was leaking. We both needed the dog collar fix for the rubber pipe mating to the intake manifold as the one ear had been broken off well before us owning and tuning it. For the record we tuned it so we could tow easier and still have good MPG- we don't race but we do use the cars like trucks as the only truck I own is my VW rabbit and I like the 04 golf better for towing. I just wanted to update people on the gauges.
