[Vwdiesel] TDI alternator pulley

Hayden is correct. However, when I was faced with the failure, I found that
for one outrageous price I could get a lifetime of alternators. I could
not find a lifetime warranty on the sprage clutch.
My 91 Jetta IDI has gone through COUNTLESS brush replacements. And a bearing.
Then a winding. After all that, I finally bought into the lifetime part.
Since then, two more sets of brushes.
So consider how long you will own the car, and how many times you might be
going after the clutch pulley.
On the TDI, there is one more consideration...it is possible to replace the
pulley in situ, thereby saving dropping the AC compressor (not evac, just
unbolting). So if all you want to replace is the pulley, that is an option.
But look at the price of the pulley, (when I was faced with it, $88, and the
price of the alternator ($180).
