90% of the time when you get an air leak that will let a LOT of air
bubbles into the line (or let the fuel drain back), there will be no
leakage of fuel, just air going in.
You're convinced it's timing but if it starts up well and runs correctly,
(when it does start) then it shouldn't be timing. If it coughs sputters,
finally clears then perhaps injectors or glow plugs. If power seems
lacking, engine revs slowly to what it should, or is really noisy then
timing or possibly injector/s. If it starts good, runs good but then
won't start, it's something "mobile" such as rats nest in the intake,
bubbles in the line or something ambling around in the fuel tank,
blocking the inlet.
