I was the one that mentioned that the intake rubber hose going into the intake manifold tends to break off one of the two dog ears and become loose. Not hard to fix nor expensive but almost all of the BEW's have this issue. The cam, without seeing the scratch you are talking about in the picture I can't tell. If it runs a little of and you can catch in a scratch then the lifter under it may be trashed and on the way out.
The oil coming from the intercooler piping is normal without the oil catch. The diesel engine vent pipe is a CCV (crank case vent). The Gas cars have the PCV (positive crank vent) and are normally a breather verses a hose. I cut the CCV hose and installed a water sprinkler system screen in the piping and have caught a lot of oil in 2000 miles. It is the most common for the added oil. Not needed to do. You just need to do the Italian tune up once in a while so you don't either hydroloc your engine or have it run away on the oil build up in the intercooler. The Italian tuneup just just driving it really hard once warm to high RPMs up a steep hill under as much load as possible once in a while to warm the oils up and flush out before too much can build up. Also good for the turbo vanes and seals as it keeps pressure on the seals and burns carbon out of the vanes which can get sticky if driven really lightly.
