Knowing that the 12v on the output of the switch goes away when you
put in a light means that you have a bad connection somewhere between
that point and the battery. (Definitely check if it's inside the
switch - my first guess.) Check to see if it still has 12v going into
the switch. If it does then you should open the switch and clean the
contacts - you'll find them dirty.
