[Vwdiesel] Windshield leaks.

Technically, to reseal, you need to remove, and reinstall. It was
installed poorly in the first instance, that's why it's leaking now. You
only get one shot at it, with the glue applied in a fat bead. Smoosh the fat
bead of sealant/adhesive around setting the window down on the opening,
lifting, repositioning it, doing it again to get it right, it becomes a not
fat bead, and leaves gaps. That's why if you set it down, and you have to
lift to reposition, you're supposed to remove it, clean the adhesive off,
reapply the bead of sealant, and reinstall. It's not bad to remove the
windshield at this point, and do-able if the crack isn't big, you need the
knife for the job, and a sturdy friend so you don't crack the windshield as
you cut it out with the drawknife.

In a rollover the windshield is supposed to help hold the roof up, hence the
need to do it right the first time, leakage issues aside. The leakage will
most likely lead to rust in the windshield ledge area that the glue is
applied to. Might want to just change the glass sooner than later.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Windshield leaks.

I've been fighting the sunroof leaks/wet floors in my TDI issue for a long
long time now.  I cleared the drain lines and sealed them to their
respective nipples.  I replaced the hood release grommet and hopefully, that
will slow it down a little.  Up came tonight, however, a giant, but fast
storm.  I was able to sit in the car in the rain with the front of the
headliner down.

What I learned was that the windshield seal is leaking at the top.  It's a
glued-in windshield.  I'm guessing I need to run a bead of some kind of
sealant around there.  Any thoughts as to type of sealer/ etc?  The
windshield has a star crack in it that's starting to spread so I'll most
likely need a new windshield soon any how, but I'd like to get my money's
worth out of it anyways.
