Except the early ones, which seem to be the most common.  '85's  are all 
mechanical and I've heard the change wasn't until mid '86 but then VW 
claimed the 12mm head bolts came in mid '81 even though I've never 
heard of an '81 that didn't have 11mm head bolts.
