The amp (control unit) is notorious for failing in those due to cold solder
joints and failing electrolytic capacitors. Before replacing the control
unit, it is wise to test ALL of the other functions and from the control
unit connector. It is also important to open the control unit connector
and re-crimp all the little connectors and reconnecting and seeing if that
does the trick.
