[Vwdiesel] [Audi-VW-Diesels] Head Bolts and more

I have three types of bolts from three engines in my garage:
11mm Allen Hex head. Bentley indicates this is non-stretch
11mm 12-point allen like head. Bentley indicates this is a stretch
12mm 12 point socket head (takes a 12 point socket to remove)

I wish I could remember who said gasser bolts were somehow better. I wonder if the difference was stretch or non-stretch? (And the poster assumed that stretch was gas and non-stretch was diesel.) This is my guess.

Hmm, so do I use the reuseable bolts, or do I use the stretch bolts that are presumably on the way? My inclination is that VW thought the stretch ones were better and that is why they went that way.

Also, I just noticed that the rod bolts are stretch bolts. Wish I would have realized that when I put in the big order including bearings.

I don't have to buy the bearings if I choose not to. What do you all think? Any way to judge the condition of the bearings without taking it apart and having to replace the rod bolts?

I am starting to think more and more about just rebuilding it and maybe driving the car for awhile.

Thanks guys!
