From what I have learned over the years, the bottem end of the 1Y is 
different, the case is stamped 1.9 D, the AAZ bottom end is stamped 1.9 TD.
That says enough for me.  The heads are the same, for sure.  Bottom ends are a 
bit different, I have heard rods and pistons are different, the TD block has the 
boss tapped for the oil return line coming down from the turbo, on the 1Y, the 
boss it there, but not drilled or tapped.
1Y most likely doesn not vent crank case back up to the breather ontop of the 
Valve cover plate, I took the breather hose, or flattened plastic thing, off an 
AAZ and put it on my 1Y.  Not sure if it helped any, but I did it.

Pretty sure all the AAZ engines were turbo. I think the non turbo version is a 
1Y. Roger has one in his truck without the turbo. I don't think they would want 
to code engines with the same code if they are different since there is a few 
more things then just a turbo in differences like the injection pump on some of 
them.
