[Vwdiesel] Starting?

Although I realize a lot of people still call it a bendix.
Just for fun; They haven't made a bendix drive starter since the late
1930's

The starter drive uses a sprag clutch now.



And the the solenoid won't spin the motor until the pinion is thrown all the
way into the flywheel, unless there is fork issue.
So either the starter output shaft is broken or the sprag clutch is broken.
It can't be the solenoid if the starter spins using the ignition key.
