[Vwdiesel] Injector question

I'm clearly working on both cars to try and have _something_ to drive to 
work.

I recently had the injectors rebuilt on my '00 TDI.  Driving around last 
night, I had to accelerate suddenly and I heard the most fantastic 
knocking from under the hood.  Sounded for all the world like an 
injector going bad.  Not happy.  I've never really had one go bad that 
way, mostly they just slowly fail.  That is how they go, 
right?--knocking upon acceleration, barely audible at idle?  If so, what 
causes that?  If it's schmutz in the injector, I'll have a hard time 
getting the shop to fix it under warranty.  If it's mechanical failure 
in the injector, I'm going to get them to fix it if I have to throw it 
through their front widow.
