That is a real no-no for a few reasons:  drilling and tapping risks putting metal shavings into the joint = drastically more wear.  Secondly, the grease only makes it "feel" tight with hand forces.  The joint will still move to it's wear area (why it is worn there in the first place) and alignment will be very wrong.  Ball joints and tie rod ends are a LOT cheaper than tires.
