TDI's come with Synthetic breakin oil from what I heard. Don't know what it is but you have to change 5K miles the first round then 10 after that. On the fathers 09 you have to reset the computer after the first oil change to warn you at 10K and not 5K. There is a good head rebuilder that advises to use racing oil with added zince for the PD cars when there is a new cam in there. Don't know about re-ringing a TDI since it happens so rarely. 

The chevy never has had an unloaded mile in its life. One thing that helped it was the exhaust on it. The OEM one was not mandril bend and it really restricted that set of years. It was about 25K before we did the exhaust and it was the first time hearing the turbo. Less oil was burning as well. There was one time we had a 40 ft trailer with 6 tractors from near Montana to central MN.
