[Vwdiesel] WTB: Cheap car/Project

My stated goal for the year is to buy and sell enough cars that the state of Kansas sends me a letter telling me to cut it out or to get a dealer's license!

My plan is to buy vehicles that need a bit of work, a thorough cleaning and general fixing up and sell them for a bit of profit while driving them in the mean time.

The ideal car will probably be a little bit older (due to my budget), it will probably be driveable or close to driveable but not have major body damage, or if it does it will be "bolt on" parts. Maybe some trim parts in the interior need replacing or repair. May need replacement parts like wheel bearings, a clutch, brakes, etc but the engine either should run or only need a few parts to run.

Hopefully I can drive it to Manhattan, Kansas (think close to the middle of the state) but I am pretty adventurous, resourceful, and I have AAA and flexible work schedule. If it isn't driveable or close to driveable then it should probably be fairly close to Manhattan. (I have an old Explorer and can rent or borrow a tow dolly.)

Prefer Volkswagen but will consider just about anything otherwise fitting the above description. Would love diesel and/or convertible but not at all necessary. Air or water cooled.

An example of what I'm hoping to find:

About 4 years ago, I bought a '92 VW Cabriolet from a guy in California. It had leaky rear wheel brake cylinders and he was tired of putting money into the car. He was ready to sell it for parts. I ended up buying the car for $250, getting out to California, repairing the rear brakes, and driving the car home.

I know that is kind of an extreme example, but that is a deal I really did. That car I drove for a couple years before selling, but it is the kind of thing I'm looking for.

Budget is up to about $1000.

Let me know what you got, or if you hear or know of anything that might interest me!
