[Vwdiesel] Quantum Diesel Parts Needed

Good Morning,

I'm in need of some parts for my 85 Quantum Diesel, TurboCharged, 1.6 L. The starter likes to just overrun without engaging the gear and I think the quick fix is to pull it, clean it, grease it and reinstall it. It is my plan to do just that after the clutch/transmission replacement is completed on my 90 Jetta (gas) and I find and repair the grinding noise on my 82 Rabbit diesel (pretty sure it's a front wheel bearing and I have the replacement). I would, though, like to have a spare starter. Parts are getting harder and harder to find and I don't really want to order that new or rebuilt starter from Bosch in Atlanta for $221.

I also need a set of injectors. I priced the new ones available here in Indianapolis and they ran $43 each. I checked at a turbo/injector pump repair facility here and for about $45 each I could have them rebuilt. I expect there are some better choices available and would appreciate any feedback on this problem.

I do have an 80 something Jetta diesel in need of an engine rebuild. I suppose that I could, in this interval of time finding a cost-effective method of rebuilding injectors, just pull the injectors from the Jetta and put them in the Quantum. Anyone see any problems with that plan?

I really look forward to receiving and reading the email from this group. It's always interesting.

Sincerely,

Gerry
Indianapolis
