  With gauges no, it'd be gradual but with an "idiot light"/buzzer, 
suddenly, one day, 
the oil pressure will be low enough to set it off.  
  Mine was due to a worn pump as well as int shaft bearings.  (thrust 
surface of 
the crank went through the oil pump, vac pump, cam lobes, etc.  Main and 
rods 
were ok but everything else had wear.  Rebuild didn't fix it until I 
replaced the oil  
pump.  You might get by with a 36mm gear pump.  :-)
