[Vwdiesel] Audi 5 cyl. TD data

Mark mentions a 5000TQ Avant, so that's what I'll base these observations
on.

The car itself is about 3500 lbs, so it won't be fast ;-)

The final drive of the 5000TQ is 3.89, and the fifth gear is pretty
reasonable as well. It's not geared anything like a 4000Q on the top end.
Should suit the TD engine quite well.

Loren is dead on, all th TD's we got here were auto. The 5-speed diesel
5-cyl's were non-turbo.

As for swapping the ring and pinion, on a Quattro you have to swap out the
rear end as well, and that's no simple task. On top of which, the US cars
only got 3.89's and 4.11's, so those are your only real options unless you
have something custom fabricated $$$$. Either way, the gearing of the 5000TQ
makes that a non-issue

And Mark, good luck blowing that one up. Aside from a blown timing belt, or
run out of coolant or oil, you have about a 1% chance of actually blowing it
up. But, then again, it will be fun trying, right?

Tony
