[Vwdiesel] OT: 1.8T Head and engine

Hi Dave;
I have a 1.8 20 valve turbo engine in my shop. My friend with a high
end Euro garage gave it to me. They put a used 20 valve in the ladies car
since it needed to be done almost instantly. It came out of a car with about
140,000 on it that hadn't had a belt changed and it bent 12 of the 20 valves
the same as the one you have. Valves are fairly cheap and I see no reason
yet why I can't just put in the new valves lap them and be good to go. Be
sure you change the water-pump because they are prone to failure with many
miles on them. I don't know what I'm going to do with mine since my logical
choice for a rig is a Rabbit pickup. The lure of close to 200 horses in my
Rabbit gas PU makes me want to purchase a Mega-squirt or other engine
management system to run it. Being old and usually running a points ignition
in my gassers I don't know if I will spend the money. Perhaps I will sell
the 1.8 20T engine. I am in the middle of rebuilding a 1.6 turbo diesel from
an Audi to put in either a 1990 Fox two door wagon in place of its gas
engine or my 1981 Dasher diesel Wagon. I have a rebuilt 1.6 diesel ready to
go in my Rabbit diesel pickup and I will use a BAE turbo setup in it.

A friend's daughter had the timing belt strip out right at 104,700
miles-around 300 miles before the recommended change interval from what I
can see in the owner's manual. (Belt teeth stripped at the crank.)

Anyway, I got the head off this morning to take a look at the damage. Three
of the 5 valves in each cylinder are bent. Each piston has a nick from an
intake valve in the same spot.

Is this anything you would worry about running?

Also, any recommendations for good used or rebuilt heads?
