It is also there to hold the seal in place in the event of a crash. Not 
entirely necessary, though.

Using 1/4" rope? That and some patience/tire shine (the clean silicone type) 
should do the trick.

Shalyn told me about yours, unfortunately i couldn't get his in, otherwise I 
would have headed down your way as well. Maybe next time,
