[Vwdiesel] pulley alignment

AFIK there are two pumps, large hub and small.  No different  offsets 
(talking '77 - '92 cars).
  I'm working on a misalignment issue on a pickup but it's the alt, 
caused by a worn "through" hole, allowing the alt to sag and swing 
outward, throwing off the alignment as well as the tensioning  ability.
  In figuring this all out, the local parts supplier commented that  there 
are some differing offset water pump pulleys.  Can't comment from 
experience but...
