[Vwdiesel] pulley alignment

Loren,
 I have a buddy who swears that there are different length
water pumps. I have a local parts guy who is very knowledgeable
who says if there is he has never seen or heard of it.  
I think I'll take a trip to the boneyard and see if I can 
find a crank hub w a different offset. As I think about it
I don't think the waterpump pulley can move any closer to the 
front of the engine than its current location.  If all else
fails I'll shim the back of the crank pulley w washers and use
slightly longer fasteners and plenty of loctite.  I just hate
pulleys that don't line up LOL. Thanks for response.
