[Vwdiesel] busted windshield wipers

Had a 1979 VW Bus with this problem but never was fully able to solve it. The rotating shafts that come out of the body cowl to attach to the windshield wipers had their little ridges striped. Check & see if they are turning & the wipers are slipping on the shafts. If this is the case, find some kind of shim material that will prevent the slippage. I tried sandpaper but that didn't work. Never did find anything that really worked but maybe some of you out there can think of something. If the wiper shafts aren't rotating then I don't know what to suggest other than to drill & tap a screw hole in the wiper arm, but I never did try that.
